1980年生于北京，现主要生活和工作于北京，中央美术学院教授、博士生导师。
邬建安的艺术思辨和视觉创造，核心在于借助那些看似远离今日生活的情境，表达人类文明历史中永恒的部分，唤醒人内心感受中隐秘幽微却宏大磅礴的潜意识，进而引发对时代和人的反思与观照。

邬建安的代表作品进入大都会艺术博物馆、波士顿美术博物馆、洛杉矶郡立艺术博物馆、伯克利美术馆及太平洋影像艺术中心、巴西奥斯卡·尼迈耶博物馆、康奈尔大学赫伯特 F. 约翰逊艺术博物馆、澳大利亚白兔艺术收藏、日本福冈亚洲艺术博物馆、广东美术馆、中央美术学院美术馆、北京民生现代美术馆、上海星美术馆等学术机构的馆藏，现代传播集团、汇丰尚玉中心、陈一丹基金会，以及爱马仕、迪奥、宝格丽等亦收藏有邬建安的作品。
2021年，由于其艺术成就所产⽣的深远影响，邬建安获“2021年度亚洲⽂化协会奖助”，他也是当年度唯⼀获此殊荣的中国⼤陆艺术家。他获选的主要⽂化奖项还包括“2024SABF年度艺术家”（⼴西师范⼤学出版社，英国ACC Art Books出版集团及澳⼤利亚Images出版集团）、“2023福布斯中国当代青年艺术家影响⼒榜单”（福布斯中国）、“2020 Best of the Best 年度艺术家”（《罗博报告》）、“2021年度风尚风格艺术家”（《费加罗FIGARO》）、“2018年度 40 Under 40 艺术家榜单”（Perspective《视野》）、“2017年度青年⼒量”（《南⽅⼈物周刊》）等奖项。2019年，邬建安受邀参加央视纪录频道出品的《中国想象⼒》，这也是他的⾸部个⼈纪录⽚。

Central Academy of Fine Arts.
The artistic logic and visual creativity of Wu Jian'an are rooted in his use of scenes that seem distant from contemporary life to express eternal threads that run through the history of human civilization. He awakens the hidden and subtle yet grand and majestic subconscious that lies within every human heart, inspiring the viewer to reflect on human nature and the times in which we live.
In 2017, Wu Jian’an represented China in the 57th Venice Biennale. In recent years, Wu’s art works have attended Border crossing: Possibilities and Interactions (Yuz Museum Shanghai, Shanghai, China, 2023), Lines of Thought: Gestural Abstraction in the BAMPFA Collection (Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, USA, 2022), SUPER FUSION: 2021 Chengdu Biennale (Tianfu Art Park, Chengdu, China, 2021), Glasstress: Window to the Future (The State Hermitage Museum, Russia, 2021), KAIWU: Art et design en Chine (Musée de l’Hospice Comtesse, France, 2021), The Endless Life—the Narrative of the Yellow River (The Museum of Contemporary Art Yinchuan, Ningxia, China, 2020), Art and Archaeology (Naples National Archaeological Museum, Italy, 2019), The 7 th Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial (Echigo-Tsumari, Japan, 2018), Serpenti Form (Mori Art Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 2019; Art Science Museum, Singapore; Chengdu Museum, Chengdu, China; 2017-2019), etc. He had held several solo exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Xi’an, Singapore, Basel, Kalamazoo, Chicago and New York City.
His work has been collected by important institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (USA), the Museum of Fine Art, Boston (USA), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (USA), the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archiver (USA), the Oscar Niemeyer Museum (Brazil), the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University (USA), the White Rabbit Gallery (Australia), the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (Japan), the Guangdong Museum of Art, the CAFA Art Museum (China), the Beijing Minsheng Art Museum (China), the Start Museum (China), etc. His work is also in the collection of the Modern Media Group, the HSBC Jade center, the Chen Yidan Foundation, Hermès, DIOR and BVLGARI.
Credited for the far-reaching impact of his artistic practice, Wu received The Asian Cul-tural Council 2021 Grants, which made him the only visual artist in China to receive this award that year. In recent years, he has also received the“The Arts Bridge Artist of the Year”(Guangxi Normal University Press, ACC Art Books, Images Publisher), the“Influential 2023: Forbes China Contemporary Young Artists”(Forbes China), the“2020 Best of the Best Awards for Artists”(Robb Report), the“2018 40 Under 40 Awards”(Perspective), the“2017 Young Power”(Southern People Weekly), and several other cultural awards bestowed by influential medias and institutes. In 2019, he was selected for CCTV's Documentary Channel production,“The Innovation of China", which was also his first personal documentary.
