刘东塬的实践着力于绘画本体论的再生成。艺术家介入符号的象征性意谓，并在能指与所指之间的关系还未溶解之前对画面中形象的结构提前注入快感的痕迹。他对绘画对象的物理随机性的消解保持着长久的怀疑，拒斥过度扁平的模拟等一系列小布尔乔亚臆想。画面中的叙事和观念指向一种令人匪夷所思的确凿模糊性：以过于招摇的姿势留下明显的圈套;只有狡猾的智人才会上钩。

Liu Dongyuan's practice focuses on the ontologicalreformulation of painting. The artist intervenes in thesymbolic meaning of signs and injects traces of pleasureinto the structure of the image in advance of the dissolutionof the relationship between the signifier and the signified.He maintains a long-standing suspicion of the abolition ofthe physical randomness of the painted subject, rejectinga series of Petit Bourgeois conjectures like over-flattenedmimesis. The narratives and ideas in the images point to anuncanny and conclusive ambiguity: leaving obvious trapswith ostentatious gestures; only cunning Homo Sapienswould take the bait.
