1996年生于中国深圳，是一名生活并工于纽约的艺术家。她于2019年获纽约视觉艺术学院的视觉与批判研究学士学位，并获得罗德家族最高杰出成就奖和多项奖学金。她的作品曾在中国和美国展出。她目前正于纽约视觉艺术学院攻读并计划于2022年取得纯艺术硕士学位。
方媛的绘画实践始于一种对外界环境的自我抽离。成长并生活于高速发展的都市使她持续性地感 到周围环境投射给自己的焦虑与不安，对她而言，变化是一种真实而生动的可触碰的物理经验。 她的创作凝聚了对永恒这一概念的探求，即捕寻处于无尽与所谓尘世之间的幻象。她让不同层次 的空间彼此交融，构建层叠并行着的不可能的空间，凝视着三维空间中模棱两可的形体如何在平 面上渲染，以及那些无形但显然存在并依附于彼此的关系之间的交织。
Born in 1996 in Shenzhen, China, she is a visual artist who lives and works in New York City. She graduated from the Visual and Critical Studies Program at the School of Visual Arts (BFA) with Rhodes Family Award for Outstanding Achievement. Her works have been exhibited in the United States and China. She is currently an MFA candidate at the School of Visual Arts who is expected to graduate in 2022.
Fang’s practice began with a self-detachment from the external environment while maintaining a rebellious posture of exile. Throughout her upbringing, she has been constantly experiencing a lack of belonging and displacements reflected by her surroundings. For her, desire, emotions, and memory are not concepts, but unsteady and tangible experiences. As an Asian woman living in the context of cosmopolitanism, she attempts to explore her own vulnerability in the sense of self-estrangement in her practice.
