2000年出生于乌克兰敖德萨，现工作生活于中国杭州和英国伦敦。她于2022年在美国芝加哥艺术学院获得艺术学士学位，于2023年在英国皇家艺术学院获得油画专业艺术硕士学位。
夕背的创作基于自身的经历，通过向内的视角描绘出亲情和友情等亲密关系，并由此出发，探讨绘画的纪念碑性。作品之于艺术家本身，更像是一本日记簿，记录了时间流逝带来的变化和她对周遭环境的感悟。受巴塔耶理论的影响，夕背赋予生活中诸多所谓无意义的瞬间和相互剥离的事件以意义，并将其留在作品中，尝试让它们到达“一次即永恒”（une fois pour toutes）的状态。熟悉的人物和日常事物隐匿于画面中，迷蒙深沉的颜色和婉转流动的线条共同构筑出一层时间的滤镜，观者在虚虚实实之间亦可以体味其中滋味——复杂而细腻的情感羁绊，难以言述。
同时，夕背也在积极探索多维度的创作媒介。其表现主义的绘画手法是一种对“内在体验”（L'expérience intérieure）进行反复刻画的方式，在此基础之上，雕塑、装置和影像的实践似乎将艺术家置于有迹可循的道路之外，却使其更接近原初的经验。夕背的作品以一种隐喻的方式，带有温度地向外界传递着强烈的情感。令人激动的是，艺术家这样或许已经走在了“直至可能的尽头”（aller jusqu'au bout du possible）之路上。
Born in 2000 in Odessa, Ukraine, Currently works and lives in Hangzhou, China and London, UK. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2022 and her Master of Fine Arts in Oil Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2023.
Sonia Jia's creation is based on her own experience. She depicts intimate relationships such as family and friendship from an inward perspective, and from this point of view, explores the monumentality of painting. For the artist herself, the work is more like a diary, recording the changes brought about by the passage of time and her perception of the surrounding environment. Influenced by Bataille's theory, Sonia Jia gives meaning to many so-called meaningless moments and mutually detached events in life, and leaves them in her works, trying to make them reach the state of "une fois pour toutes". Familiar people and daily things are hidden in the picture, and the misty and deep colors and the graceful and flowing lines together construct a layer of time filter. The viewer can also experience the taste between the virtual and the real - the complex and delicate emotional bond is difficult to describe.
At the same time, Sonia Jia is also actively exploring multi-dimensional creative media. Her expressionist painting technique is a way of repeatedly depicting "inner experience" (L'expérience intérieure). On this basis, the practice of sculpture, installation and video seems to place the artist outside the traceable path, but brings him closer to the original experience. Sonia Jia's works convey strong emotions to the outside world in a metaphorical way with warmth. What is exciting is that the artist may have walked on the road of "until the end of the possible" (aller jusqu'au bout du possible).
