1960年⽣于中国杭州，现⽣活和⼯作于杭州。1982年毕业于浙江美术学院油画系，1983年赴美国芝加哥艺术学院研究院学习后获硕⼠学位。2006 年回到杭州⽣活与⼯作，任中国美术学院中德学院教授。
吴杉的作品中，是艺术家⽇复⼀⽇的⽇课，也是其⾯对⾃我，观察⾃我时的叠加与收集。没有⼈的线条⽐吴杉画的线条更纤细了。也可以说，没有⼈的线条⽐吴杉的线条更轻逸了。它就是纯粹的线本身，是线的痕迹本身。即使它如此地平静，我们还是能感受到它内在⽽隐秘的激荡和争执。它正是连接艺术家私⼈精神层⾯的通道，在⽆形的内在世界中编织有形，形成对外在周遭极为简略⽽紧密的复现。
Born in Hangzhou, China. He lives and works in Hang Zhou, graduated in oil painting department in Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. In 1983, Wu Shan enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago to study printmaking in and received master’s degree. In 2006, he returned to the culturally rich atmosphere of Hangzhou, where he served as a professor at the Sino-German Academy of China Academy of Art and chose lacquer as his medium.
In Wu Shan's works, we see the artist's daily practice, a process of accumulation and introspection. No one's lines are finer than Wu Shan's. It could be said that no one's lines are more graceful than his. They are pure lines themselves, traces of lines. Even though they are so calm, we can still feel their inner turmoil and conflict. They serve as a channel connecting the artist's personal spiritual realm, weaving the intangible inner world into tangible forms, forming a simple yet intricate representation of the external surroundings.
