Born in Seoul, South Korea in 1980, she grew up in Queens, New York, and currently lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 with a Master of Arts in Painting. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Fine Arts.

McBride's paintings are described as "views of a place where magic reveals itself differently than it does in this world." Her scenes are often tense with anticipation or blushing in the aftermath of an unseen event. She combines disparate yet familiar fragments into spaces that are still, anxious, and temperamental. She aims to create works that are uneasy and suspenseful, evoking the thrill of exploring a new place and the sensation of drifting back into a frightening dream.
