浙江省海盐县人。中央美术学院教授。1958年毕业于中央美术学院,受吴作人、艾中信、王式廓等先生指导。1959年春分配到青海省工作,在青藏高原工作21年。期间历任青海省美术家协会副主席、青海省人大常委。1980年春调回中央美术学院任教。曾任中央美术学院副院长,中央美术学院学术委员会副主任,教授、研究生导师,中国美术家协会理事,油画艺术委员会主任。中国油画学会副主席,全国政协委员。油画长于人物、风景,作品构思巧妙、富有诗意,画面景物一般都相当单纯、平淡、自然,但表现十分丰富,概括而不单调。水墨画于中国画传统中融入西画色光空间感觉和现代抽象构成理念,韵味天成。
Born in Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province. Professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1958, under the guidance of Wu Zuoren, Ai Zhongxin, Wang Shikuo and others. In the spring of 1959, he was assigned to work in Qinghai Province and worked in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for 21 years. During this period, he served as Vice Chairman of the Qinghai Artists Association and Member of the Standing Committee of the Qinghai Provincial People's Congress. In the spring of 1980, he was transferred back to the Central Academy of Fine Arts to teach. He was Vice President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Professor, Postgraduate Supervisor, Director of the Chinese Artists Association, and Director of the Oil Painting Art Committee. Vice Chairman of the Chinese Oil Painting Society, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He is good at oil painting figures and landscapes. His works are cleverly conceived and poetic. The scenes in the pictures are generally quite simple, plain and natural, but the expression is very rich, generalized but not monotonous. Ink painting incorporates the color, light and space feeling of Western painting and the concept of modern abstract composition into the traditional Chinese painting, and the charm is natural.
