出生于安徽萧县白土镇（时属江苏）一个具有文化修养的医生世家，1935年进入国立杭州艺术专科学校学习西画，1941年毕业于国立杭州艺专，即今天的中国美术学院。1945年任教南京中央大学建筑系。1949年任教台北师大艺术系。1951至1955年任教于台湾师范学院。1955年定居巴黎，从事绘画创作。1980年入籍法国。1997年当选法兰西学院艺术院终身院士。朱德群先生是当今著名海外华人艺术家之一。其作品远看像西洋画，近看像中国画。他笔下的色块和几何线条，流露抽象表现主义的意味；而雄伟壮丽的山峰和河流，又让人想起中国北宋山水画的风格。
Born in Baitu Town, Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province (then part of Jiangsu Province) into a family of doctors with cultural accomplishments, he entered the National Hangzhou Art College in 1935 to study Western painting and graduated from the National Hangzhou Art College in 1941, which is today's China Academy of Art. In 1945, he taught at the Department of Architecture of Nanjing Central University. In 1949, he taught at the Department of Art of Taipei Normal University. From 1951 to 1955, he taught at Taiwan Normal College. In 1955, he settled in Paris and engaged in painting. In 1980, he became a French citizen. In 1997, he was elected as a lifetime academician of the Academy of Fine Arts of the French Academy. Mr. Chu Teh-Chun is one of the famous overseas Chinese artists today. His works look like Western paintings from a distance, but like Chinese paintings from a close distance. The blocks of color and geometric lines in his paintings reveal the meaning of abstract expressionism; while the majestic mountains and rivers remind people of the style of Chinese Northern Song Dynasty landscape paintings.
