广东中山人。中央美术学院教授。1925年从师汪慎生、汤定之、齐白石等学习国画，1926年入北平艺专学习绘画，1937年赴欧洲学习雕塑，归国后在上海、北京等地院校从事美术教学。1949年后在中央美术学院任教，并在中央工艺美术学院教授水彩画。五六十年代画水彩、水墨画，在中国水彩画坛享有盛誉，1954年在全国首届水彩、速写展览会上，她的水彩画《丁香花》、《少先队员》是画展中优秀作品之一。她的水彩画融中西优秀画法于一体，自成一格，色调明快，不重光影，笔法简洁，意境清新，先后有许多作品参加国内外大展，颇受好评，是北京水彩画会老会员，出版有《水彩画技法》。2001年在中国美术馆举办“萧淑芳从艺75周年回顾展”。作品多次参加国内外展览，并被中国美术馆及海内外艺术机构和私人广泛收藏。
Born in Zhongshan, Guangdong. Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1925, she studied Chinese painting under the guidance of Wang Shensheng, Tang Dingzhi, Qi Baishi and others. In 1926, she entered the Beijing Art College to study painting. In 1937, she went to Europe to study sculpture. After returning to China, she taught art in colleges and universities in Shanghai and Beijing. After 1949, she taught at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and taught watercolor painting at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. In the 1950s and 1960s, she painted watercolor and ink paintings, and enjoyed a high reputation in the Chinese watercolor painting circle. In 1954, at the first national watercolor and sketch exhibition, her watercolor paintings "丁香花" and "少先队员" were among the outstanding works in the exhibition. Her watercolor paintings integrate excellent Chinese and Western painting techniques, forming a unique style, with bright colors, not focusing on light and shadow, simple brushwork, and fresh artistic conception. Many of her works have participated in major exhibitions at home and abroad and have been well received. She is an old member of the Beijing Watercolor Painting Society and has published "水彩画技法". In 2001, the "萧淑芳从艺75周年回顾展" was held at the National Art Museum of China. His works have been exhibited at home and abroad for many times, and have been widely collected by national art museums, art institutions and individuals at home and abroad.
