著名水彩画家。出生于无锡,后迁居上海研习绘画。1947年赴美进修并举办画展,旋即声誉鹊起。1965年获美国国立艺术学院终身院士称号,其画作获得美国国家美术会金牌优等奖及其他大奖,并被收藏于世界各地的知名艺术博物馆中。
程及是中国早期水彩画的拓展者,也是最早向西方传递中国美学的先辈。他创造性地把中国传统绘画的笔墨意韵和天人合一的感悟方式有机地融合到以色彩造型为根本的水彩画中,从而形成独树一帜的绘画风格。他的画既有西方绘画的印象色彩和抽象形体,又有东方绘画的笔墨情绪和文人意境,以完美的笔画技术和独具匠心的意境将画面表现得活灵活现,栩栩如生。1938年的诺贝尔文学奖得主、美国著名作家赛珍珠(Pearl S. Buck)推崇他为“世上罕有的艺术家”,“是属于世界的”。
Famous watercolor painter. Born in Wuxi, he later moved to Shanghai to study painting. In 1947, he went to the United States for further studies and held an exhibition, and his reputation rose immediately. In 1965, he was awarded the title of Lifetime Academician of the National Academy of Arts of the United States. His paintings won the Gold Medal of Excellence of the National Art Association of the United States and other awards, and are collected in famous art museums around the world.
Chen Chi was the pioneer of early Chinese watercolor painting and the first pioneer to convey Chinese aesthetics to the West. He creatively integrated the brush and ink charm of traditional Chinese painting and the way of understanding the unity of man and nature into watercolor painting based on color modeling, thus forming a unique painting style. His paintings have both the impressionistic colors and abstract forms of Western paintings, and the brush and ink emotions and literati artistic conception of Eastern paintings. With perfect brushstroke techniques and unique artistic conception, he made the pictures vivid and lifelike. Pearl S. Buck, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938 and a famous American writer, praised him as "a rare artist in the world" and "belonging to the world."
