Born in 1986 in Dallas, Texas, his work explores different structures of perception. Through video, sculpture, drawing, and installation, he investigates the mind-body cycles that shape our experience of the world. The artist's practice combines personal experience with research on desire, space, and media. A core theme in his work is threshhold and its radical potential as a form of resistance. Wang Shui often focuses on the latent space of images and materials to activate states of hallucination between detail and distance, transparency and opacity, and the known and unknown. Wang Shui received his BA in Art Practice and Social Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MFA in Film and Video from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College. He currently lives in New York.
