Sophia Loeb took part of numerous residencies as the School of Visual Arts, New York or at at Kaaysa Arte Residência, Brazil.
As explained by Sophia Loeb, "The work is a materialization of sensations of witnessing these primordial sceneries. These sceneries could be internal landscapes (biological systems, systems of thoughts and feelings) or external landscapes (how we perceive other life forms or environments).
My work urges us to question our anthropocentric views: of how humans situate themselves disunited and separate from nature, or superior to nature, attributing only an instrumental value to it or use of it. I attempt to create images that dissolve and escape from this reality of the anthropocentric mindset. A place of the awakening of human consciousness, where we understand ourselves as being integral parts of this world, where we can view it as a system of phenomena that is fundamentally interconnected.
A place of no permanent resistances or acts of continuous violence towards the natural world. All the destructions that occur are due to cyclical motions of natural phenomena and not a consequence of torturing earth. It is also an attempt of imagining earth’s process of healing, reprogramming and reconstructing itself. Returning to its natural state."
