Born 1973 in Luxembourg, Currently works and lives in Luxembourg and Berlin, Germany.

Su-Mei Tse won the Golden Lion for Best National Participation for Luxemburg pavilion at the 50th Venice Biennale, the year when she just turned thirty. Since then, she became ever more prominent in the international art scene. Born into a family of musicians, Tse received strict training in piano and cello since childhood. Even as she turned to artistic creation afterwards, music and sound continue to play significant roles in her art. She employs varying media, including photography, sculpture, video, and installation, a strong sense of self-consciousness—delicate but powerful—pervading all of her works. Tse is also interested in subjects related to sensation, music and time, and her recent works witness her treatment of issues like memory and history, with Eastern classic literature being an important inspiration. Viewing her works, one may feel as if joining a silent party on his / her own. One can be temporarily relieved from the clamoring world of reality and secure some quiet moments of self-reflection. Freed and emerging from one’s subconscious are silenced memories, intimate feelings, as well as fragments of conscious thinking. In appreciation of Tse’s works, one is enabled to steal a moment of free breathing.
