Born in Singapore in 1990. Lives and works in Berlin and Singapore.

Charmaine Poh is an artist who works across photography, film, media, and performance to navigate questions of the gendered body, queer world making, performed labor of the everyday, and the intersection of offline and online worlds. Evolving her art practice with the everchanging landscape of digital technologies, Poh’s work expands the potentialities of the body to imagine new perspectives of gender and social equality even for the near techno-future.

Initially Poh’s practice focused on using experimental documentary photography to explore narratives of Asian feminist and queer experiences that often lie in the margins. From 2021, she has embarked on a project entitled THE YOUNG BODY UNIVERSE, which employs AI to create a deepfake avatar of her past self based on found footages of herself as a child actor in a Singaporean TV series in the early 2000s, in order to reclaim her agency from the public gaze, scrutiny, and even harassment that once befell her.
