David Hockney is undoubtedly one of the most influential masters in the international art world today, and is known as "the most famous living British painter". Hockney won the gold medal of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1962. At the age of 26, he held his first solo exhibition in the UK, and later gained a higher reputation worldwide. In 2012, the Queen of England awarded him the British Order of Merit, which represented the British royal family's recognition of his "national treasure" status. Before Hockney, the only artist with the "Order of Merit" was Lucian Freud. In Hockney's artistic career, his works spanned a variety of media, from unique photo collages to opera stage design.
