Born in Osaka, Japan in 1976, he graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Osaka University of Arts in 1999 and received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Osaka University of Arts in 2001.
Tsubota Masayuki’s works form images with swaying colors, textures, and dynamics on top of compact structures, showing various forms of expression depending on the viewing angle. Precision and playfulness are cleverly combined to stir up the space. Natural materials closely related to the climate, such as wood, stone, and mineral pigments, blur and erode each other. The reunion of these materials gives the work a new life, appealing to the viewer’s five senses and resonating with forgotten memories and sensitive areas. This resonance is the origin of communication, which expands into a deep understanding that transcends time and space. This is the essence of Tsubota Masayuki’s art.
