1961年⽣于北京，现⽣活和⼯作于北京和纽约两地。他18岁时作为最年轻的成员加⼊⾸次在中国掀起现代运动浪潮的先锋艺术家群体“星星画会”， 以笔名“晨诚”参加了第⼆次“星星美展”，追求⾃我表现与艺术⾃由，为中国当代艺术的发展铺设了要基⽯。
赵刚关注流动的个体身份、冲突的⽂化，以及断裂的历史事件间的关联。他的作品连接着庞⼤繁杂的⽂化根系，受到古典与现代、⻄⽅与中国的多影响，将图案和理念呈现在解构式的画⾯语境之中。他⼤胆夸张的叙事⻛格和笔触是对⾃身存在的反复印证，也是他反对艺术中的“精致化”趋势，崇尚绘画的⾃由与本真。
Born in 1961 in Beijing, currently lives and works between Beijing and New York. At the age of 18, he became the youngest member to join the avant-garde artist group, The Stars (Xing Xing) Art Group which sparked a modern art movement in China. Under the pseudonym ‘Chen Cheng’ he participated in the second Xing Xing Exhibition, pursuing self-expression and artistic freedom, thus laying crucial groundwork for the development of contemporary Chinese art.
Zhao Gang focuses on fluid individual identities, cultural conflicts, and the connections between fragmented historical events. His works weave together a vast and intricate cultural heritage, influenced by both classical and modern elements as well as Western and Chinese traditions. His use of patterns and ideas within a deconstructive visual context showcases his bold and exaggerated narrative style, affirming his own existence while opposing the trend towards ‘refinement’ in art, advocating instead for the freedom and authenticity of painting.
