Born in Poland in 1990, lives and works in Krakow, Poland.
Reaching for objects from his closest milieu, the home and the street, Kręcicki manipulates the context and scale of the everyday. Hands, feet, fruit and vegetables are among Kręcicki’s favorite motifs, portraying them in a central composition to augment them with metaphorical meanings. The potato hangs in dark space like a meteorite, the pill rests on the screen of a phone, and the core of an apple forms the axis of a gloomy landscape. Fascinated with cinema, Kręcicki employs techniques of cinematic framing, adopting lighting configurations to create the moody settings of his paintings. Shapes emerge from the darkness, a body or object lit by a fridge light, smartphone screen, or sodium street lamp. These and other procedures serve the artist as tools for exploring and recording everyday life. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, most often both at once.
