Born in 1990, he graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts with a bachelor’s degree in Chinese painting in 2013, and a graduate degree from the Chinese Painting Department of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in 2018.
Zhai Yi has built a "space" for himself in his works, and the walls of this "space" are covered with fragmented graffiti that the artist wants to express. These graffiti are connected to each other through the three-dimensional box image, thus forming a unified new whole. Zhai Yi specially treated the boxes to have a "paper" texture, making them easier to dismantle, knead, fold and destroy, expressing their temporary, fragility and plasticity rather than being permanent and unchanging.
When viewers view these "spaces", they adopt a long-distance observation method similar to God's perspective, which avoids excessive gaze on a single image and also adds more layers to the act of viewing. Eyes symbolize the window of knowledge and understanding.
