1980年生于浙江温州，1999年毕业于浙江丽水农业学校美术专业，2004年完成了德国柏林艺术⼤学夏季学院绘画课程，2005年毕业于中国美术学院综合艺术系综合绘画工作室，现工作生活于上海。
徐大卫的作品几乎完全基于想象，是更为主观和直觉式的表达。他说自己的创作常常开始于一片空白，并没有叙事的脚本或者事先的计划。他总是从画笔在画布上“自动”涂抹开始，画面内容在涂抹中慢慢成形。这种方式也就赋予了这批作品更加自然和顺畅的情绪流露，带有更为神秘的气氛。
徐大卫的创作倾向于直觉，感性的，更注重情感、情绪的投射与内在的表达。作品围绕着不同的物体置换组合与转换变化,来营造一些焦虑忧郁的、紧张的、矛盾的、沉重的、神秘荒诞的、趣味性的氛围。画面中时常出现的不明形状物体，作为一种不合常理的存在物，试图打破原本熟悉的环境与正常的图像叙事，制造一种陌生感。希望通过创造一种现实与虚幻并置的奇幻物理空间来实现某种现实之外的思考和心理对话。
Born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang in 1980, graduated from the Fine Arts Major of Zhejiang Lishui Agricultural School in 1999. In 2004, he completed the painting course at the Summer Academy of the University of the Arts in Berlin, Germany. In 2005, he graduated from the Comprehensive Painting Studio of the Comprehensive Art Department of the China Academy of Art. He currently works and lives in Shanghai.
Xu Dawei's works are almost entirely based on imagination and are more subjective and intuitive expressions. He said that his creations often start with a blank slate, without narrative scripts or prior plans. He always starts with the brush "automatically" painting on the canvas, and the content of the painting slowly takes shape during the painting. This method also gives this batch of works a more natural and smooth emotional expression, with a more mysterious atmosphere.
Xu Dawei's creations tend to be intuitive and perceptual, focusing more on emotion, emotional projection and inner expression. The work revolves around the replacement, combination and transformation of different objects to create some anxious, melancholic, tense, contradictory, heavy, mysterious, absurd and interesting atmospheres. Objects of unknown shape often appear in the picture, as an irrational existence, trying to break the original familiar environment and normal image narrative, creating a sense of strangeness. It is hoped that by creating a fantasy physical space where reality and illusion are juxtaposed, some kind of thinking and psychological dialogue outside reality can be achieved.
