1961年生于中国新疆 ，1985年毕业于山东工艺美术学院，1996-1999年任教于柏林艺术大学 ，2007年创建北京当代艺术馆，任教于中央美术美院担任研究生导师，2008年任哈佛大学费正清中国研究中心当代艺术研究员。现生活及工作于上海。
Born in Xinjiang, China in 1961, graduated from Shandong Institute of Arts and Crafts in 1985, taught at Berlin University of the Arts from 1996 to 1999, founded Beijing Museum of Contemporary Art in 2007, taught at the Central Academy of Fine Arts as a graduate tutor, and served as Fairbank Professor at Harvard University in 2008 Contemporary art researcher at the China Research Center. Currently lives and works in Shanghai.
