1981年生于湖南，2005年毕业于上海师范大学美术学院油画系，现工作生活于上海。
从早期作品开始，刘唯艰就确立了自己冷峻、晦涩的“社会叙事”方式：他借用了一副中性的、冷漠的“图像”面具，敏锐而深刻地触及到一个时代的社会隐痛。通过他深沉和冷淡的笔触，对时事，现代人与时并进地推进着深层的回顾和思考。此后，不断变化的主题和语言，都是他随着年龄增长、视野的开阔、社会经历的变化而自我推进的演化历程。如同他的长期行走和旅行，“每隔一段时间我会去一些地方，这些地方也没什么特别，也没有做什么特别的选择。就像生活的随机性……不停的行走可以让我能更接近真实的‘大众’和‘我’的这种概念。” 在这一场具有高度象征意义的旅程中，绘画是刘唯艰展现寻求自我认知的内心旅程的理想途径，而他的作品也是对生活中不同记忆片段和邂逅时刻的再造与重现。
Born in Hunan in 1981, he graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai Normal University in 2005. He currently works and lives in Shanghai.
Since his early works, Liu Weijian has established his own cold and obscure "social narrative" style: he borrowed a neutral and indifferent "image" mask to keenly and profoundly touch the social pain of an era. Through his deep and cold brushstrokes, he has advanced a deep review and thinking of current affairs and modern people in step with the times. Since then, the ever-changing themes and languages are all his self-promoting evolution as he grows older, his vision broadens, and his social experience changes. Just like his long-term walking and traveling, "I will go to some places every once in a while. These places are nothing special, and I haven't made any special choices. Just like the randomness of life... Constant walking allows me to get closer to the real "masses" and the concept of "me." In this highly symbolic journey, painting is an ideal way for Liu Weijian to show his inner journey of seeking self-cognition, and his works are also the reconstruction and reproduction of different memory fragments and encounter moments in life.
